Installation MySQL Version 5.0.1 - was lief falsch?

Hallo zusammen,

da die Version 3.23 von MySQL, die bei der SuSE 8.2 dabei war nie
lief, habe ich mir bei rpmseek, die neue Version 5.0.1,
sowohl als Server als auch als Client und Shared geholt und
installiert. (Alte Version zuerst deinstalliert)

Die Installationsmeldung warf dann folgendes aus?

boss:/home/heiner/Downloads/LAGERRAUM/MySQL # cd Version_5.0.1
boss:/home/heiner/Downloads/LAGERRAUM/MySQL/Version_5.0.1 # rpm
 -Uvh *.rpm
MySQL-client

MySQL-server

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SET A PASSWORD FOR THE MySQL root USER !
To do so, start the server, then issue the following commands:
/usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root password 'new-password'
/usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h boss password 'new-password'
See the manual for more instructions.

NOTE:  If you are upgrading from a MySQL <= 3.22.10 you should run
the /usr/bin/mysql_fix_privilege_tables. Otherwise you will not be
able to use the new GRANT command!

Please report any problems with the /usr/bin/mysqlbug script!

Meine Fragen:

Was bedeuten die "Warning" Hinweise?
Ist das Passwort unbedingt zu setzen?
Wie krieg ich das Ding zum Laufen?
Welche weiteren Informationen braucht ihr?
