soweit ich weiß benutzt fpdf *nicht* die pdflib - was als Vorteil 
gesehen werden kann. Es ist eine vollständig unter der GPL stehende 
reine PHP-Implementierung, d.h. man muß im eigentlichen Sinne auch 
nichts installieren, nur ins include-Verzeichnis legen und mit einem 
einfachen

define('FPDF_FONTPATH','/fpdf/font/');
require('/fpdf/fpdf.php');

kann's losgehen ;-)

Nachteil: kann vielleicht etwas langsam sein, mir wäre bis jetzt 
allerdings nichts aufgefallen

und: wie gesagt: GPL!
Ein Ausschnitt aus der Homepage (www.fpdf.org):
"FPDF is a PHP class which allows to generate PDF files with pure PHP, 
that is to say without using the PDFlib library. The advantage is that 
PDFlib requires a fee for a commercial usage. F from FPDF stands for 
Free: you may use it for any kind of usage and modify it to suit your 
needs."
