SHORTCUT is a command-line tool for creating and maintaining Windows NT and Windows 95 shortcuts. A particularly useful feature of this tool is its ability to disable automatic link tracking of network shortcuts. Running SHORTCUT.EXE with the -s switch on a target shortcut file prevents the shortcut from finding the original server associated with the drive letter. For example: shorcut -c -s -n myshortcut.lnk disables the link-tracking feature of the shortcut file MYSHORTCUT.LNK. This feature of SHORTCUT enables network administrators to use shortcuts to balance workloads between network servers. Network clients often have shortcuts to programs that reside on network servers. Although shortcut files support the use of variables in the working directory, they do not support variables on the command line. Before SHORTCUT, this restriction prevented the use of network shortcuts for balancing server workloads. Using SHORTCUT, administrators can also use shortcuts to alternate drive mappings to different servers that are mirrors of each other. Because shortcut files track the links to the original network resource, this method was also previously unavailable. File required for SHORTCUT: SHORTCUT.EXE Ist im Windows NT resourcekit enthalten. lg rene
